I’m sure that people have seen this before. But everytime I look at it I am still amazed by the amount of people that are/becoming obese in this country. And what makes it worse is the kids that are in middle school are out weighing myself and half of the other bodybuilding population.
First I think that we should all be thankful that we can control our bodies and make good decisions on the foods we eat. It is very hard to do that and we should be proud that we are able to control ourselves. To the others out there that are learning to control their food intake, keep on doing what you are doing. Everything will fall in place with the hard work you are putting in.
I believe that a major reason the children are obese is because everyone has a lack of knowledge on nutrition and physical activity. Mostly I would love to blame the parents, but blaming the parents does no justice. Because most ot the parents eat just as bad as the children. I think that dietitians, nutritionists, and health specialists need to get together and start spreading the word of good nutrition and physical activity. It is very simple.
What I would do is hold a county meeting in every county around the nation and simply sit the people down and tell them more than the basics of eating the five main food groups. Because these five main food groups can contain unhealthy foods that the government says are healthy. I think that a list of healthy foods to eat to control hunger, maintain energy levels and lose weight the healthy way should be preached throughout this meeting.
Getting knowledge out into our communities will help significantly in lowering the obesity of our children. At this meeting also preach about physical activity. How letting your child sit in front of the computer day and night surfing the internet on how to pick up chicks at school is not helping them stay healthy. Get your kid off that computer/game system and take them outside and play with them. Involving yourself and your family will let your kid know that it is all right to be physically active. While you may think that by getting your kid outside to play is helping them, it is also helping you and everyone that is out there. You are getting exercise yourself, and also bonding with the people that you love and care about. Doing this can change an obese family who has many family problems into a fun and healthy family that enjoys each others company.
I’m not saying that this will cure all of your problems but you never know what will happen when you start doing something as simple as exercising. Playing with your dog, walking around the park, tossing a football with your friends and family, playing night games with your best friends (personal favorite as a child) are great ways to get that exercise. And they are all fun. It doesn’t need to be one hour on the treadmill everyday. Change your exercise and keep the body guessing!
I used to be obese. In fact, I was one of the fattest kids in my whole middle school. I weighed 190 as an 8th grader. I was physically active in sports and lead an active life. But my nutrition was terrible. I mean, I would steal money from my parents to go buy a bag or Ruffles Cheddar and Sour Cream chips and a Mt. Dew for after my basketball and football games. I ate so much unhealthy foods all the way up to my Junior year in high school.
I weighed 220 and was sloppy fat. I was disgusted with myself. I changed everything I ate and did to change my life around. With the first two semesters of school done, I was down to 175 and lean. Ever since I have been building on that 175 lb frame and am now weight 210 at 9% body fat. I’m not saying that this is what everyone should try and accomplish. But to people out there that think that its too hard. Its not. Its all mental. If you have it going on in the upstairs (the brain) you will see results for the rest of your life.
Lets try and get the number of obese people (including children) down. It is hard as someone who eats healthy and trains year around to watch the people he loves slowly become obese. These people are stuck with health problems that can cause a family to disconnect from each other and cause health bills that will put a family in debt. Lets help america out by spreading knowledge to America about eating healthy and getting America physically active!
