coupleIn life, everything is new and exciting at first and then over time it becomes routine and then boring. Think about when you first got your drivers license and the first time your parents “let you” take the car out by yourself – it was great. The first job you had, the first time you flew on a plane, your first kiss, and so on. It was extremely exciting, but now it’s another story.

Today, people are more busy than ever and the demands and stresses of life are taking their tolls – look around you. You come home from work, slap something together for dinner and then just sit on the sofa and watch TV the rest of the night – because you have to go to back to work tomorrow.

Being married for almost 10 years now – to my best friend, you tend to know what the other person is thinking before they even have a chance to say it. This can be good and it can be bad. I have been the designated ‘bad guy’ before and I didn’t say anything or do anything to warrant it. I just thought about something in my mind. Remember you are each others’ best friends and it helps to work through things together. If one of us is having a bad day, the other usually knows how to fix it rather quickly, whether it is just listening, making a favorite meal, watching a movie, or whatever.

As for finding the time for sex, it can be a challenge, but it is important to make time for it. It is a necessary component of any long term relationship. Not everyone has the stamina to go for hours, that is not what I am talking about. Instead of those “quickies” we try to sneak one in before running somewhere else – maybe even the gym. Take the time to exercise at home with your partner. What is exercise? It is getting your blood pumping, your heart going, and you breathing faster.

So instead enjoy a little one on one with your friend, not only is it great for building your relationship it is also a great form of exercise. This could actually be the best form of a cardio workout ever!! It helps both of you stay fit, healthy, and happy. It keeps you close and connected, even when you think you’re not. In fact, if you are finding it hard to remember the last time you really felt that way…now is the time to do it – literally. Spending time touching, a nice massage, talking, even just laying next to your partner seems to put things in back in perspective. Take time afterwards to look at each other and smile, you may be surprised how funny it seems and end up laughing together – now that’s connected.

In summary, I plan on being married for many more years,
so finding time for sex is important. Practice makes perfect and it is a great part of relationship maintenance to keep practicing. In the spirit of keeping it new and exciting, reminding your partner in an email that we need to set aside some time to “exercise” tonight can bring a whole new meaning to the word
