patriotsFirst off, the Patriots got caught cheating the first week of the regular season against the New York Jets. Let’s face it, a team that they would have beat cheating or not After they got caught there is no way that they would continue this practice because of the harsh consequences that followed the first violation. Bill Belichick was fined $500,000, the Patriots were fined $250,000 and they lost their first round draft pick in the 2008 draft. The illegal videotaping incident was given the name Spygate by the news media and was a big deal at first but there is no way it can be seen as playing a role in the whole season.

The Patriots team and coaches were the reason they were so dominate this season. They had 8 total players make the Pro Bowl. 5 on the offense and 3 on the defense. During the season Tom Brady had the most touchdown passes ever for a quarterback and Randy Moss had the most touchdown receptions ever for a wide receiver. On top of all these amazing stats they had the top-ranked offense in the league and were #4 on defense. With stats like these it’s hard to argue that the little scandal at the beginning of the season had a lot to do with them making it 16-0.

For a team to be as consistent as the Patriots have been in the last 6 years it takes a multitude of factors. The first and sometimes the most important thing in keeping a team consistent is bringing on and keeping good coaches. Bill Belichick could go down as one of the best coaches of all time with the way he has kept them performing.

He has had multiple coaches leave his team and yet he has been able to keep things running smoothly. Charlie Weis, their old offensive coordinator is now the head coach for Notre Dame and Romeo Crennel now is the head coach for the Browns. Under Belichick's mentorship, many coaches are going on to being head coaches of their own. He also keeps his team on the right track. Not once this year did any of his players predict a victory or brag about the last one.

Another thing that the Patriots have done so well with the past 6 years is keeping the team together. When they lose a player to free agency it seems like they always find a better one to replace them. Deion Branch, their #1 receiver went to the Seattle Seahawks two years ago. So they simply went out and snatched up Randy Moss, Wes Welker and Donte Stallworth. Lawyor Milloy was one of their better defensive backs when they won their first Super bowl but after losing him they added a few defensive players to also fill the void, such as Adalius Thomas and Junior Seau.

Some say that Tom Brady is the reason why this team has been so dominate over the past seasons. He is definitely part of the reason, but another big one is their O-line. This year 3 of these big hoss’s made the Pro Bowl. Tom Brady is never getting hit and that is one of their biggest keys to success. The Giants were able to get pressure on him all Super Bowl and look how that game turned out. That was one of the first times that the line failed Tom Brady and it shows how valuable they have been in this teams success.

With all the success this team has had over the last decade they are now being compared to many great football dynasties. The 60’s Packers, 70’s Steelers, 80’s 49ers, 90’s Cowboys and now we have the 00’s New England Patriots. Hate the team all you want but it is hard to argue with the success they have had in the past 6 seasons.
